Water Directions to Flag Harbor |
|
|
Flag Harbor Yacht Haven is about six nautical miles north of Cove Point Light. The marina lies between Calvert Beach and Long Beach, which shown clearly on charts, particularly NOAA 12264. It is 2.1 nautical miles north of the Calvert Cliffs Nuclear Power Plant, conspicuous for its several large, round, white towers. For boats cruising the large ship channel, look for the "CP" buoy about five miles north of Cove Point, or about four miles south of red N"2" off the mouth of the Little Choptank. Then turn west and go about four miles toward the power plant. If you're running near the Western Shore, look for Green Can 77A (Approximate position 38 Degrees, 28.5 Minutes N; 76 Degrees, 27.22 Minutes W). From Green Can 77A, the entrance to Flag Harbor Haven Marina is approximately .8 miles at 245 degrees magnetic. Mariners should note that these instructions are approximations and they should use extreme caution when attempting to enter Flag Harbor Marina at night or under conditions of reduced visibility. The best landmark is a 20-foot high white pylon erected on the beach just north of the entrance channel. Stone jetties extend seaward, the outer ends marked by small lighted red and green navigation lights mounted on 10 foot high steel pilings. A flashing white light is mounted at the end of the first pier.
